Mountain Laurel Group provides children, teens and their family, high quality, individualized mental health services through our continuum of care. Mission: to serve “Spotsylvania County families, school staff, agencies, and the community placing an emphasis on children with special needs or receiving Title I services.”  In addition to providing families “support through listening and problem solving,” the PRC maintains a lending library of videos, DVD, books, journals, educational games to “enhance parenting and family interactions and gain understanding of all children.”  They offer training workshops and resources for parents and schools for building positive parent/school partnerships.  They promote working relationships among parents, schools, and the community to “increase educational opportunities for all children.”  They are also an informational resource for families needing information on special education processes including IEP planning, evaluations and eligibility, transitioning from school to adult life; information on the Title I program; and various community resources including support groups, tutors, summer camps, preschool programs.

At the Rappahannock Area Child Development Center (RACDC), we provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary developmental services (primarily Comprehensive Development Evaluations) to appropriate children aged birth to 21-years-old to promote their optimal physical, social, mental, and emotional development and well-being. Specifically, we provide evaluative, referral, case management, and other services for children who have, or are at risk for, chronic physical, developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions who require unique health, psychosocial, and other interventions.
At the RACDC, we also provide Screening for the Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Waiver and counseling services to select children and families. Within the community, we provide training and support for parents & families, teachers, and other professionals. Our community programs of outreach, advocacy, and consultation focus on the promotion of healthy growth, development, and adjustment of ALL CHILDREN. Our Interdisciplinary Team consists of a Medical Doctor, Psychologist, Social Worker, Nurse, and Educational Consultant. We work closely with the family to form diagnostic impressions and provide subsequent treatment recommendations, care planning, follow-up care coordination, referral, and intervention services.

Mission:  “Reaching Potentials in a private non-profit organization serving children with autism and their families.  We partner with parents and the professional community to provide research-based services, including Training, Early Intervention Programs, Outreach and Replication…Reaching Potentials empowers individuals with autism, their parents or caregivers by utilizing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA)...an empirically proven method of intervention for those directly and indirectly touched by autistic spectrum disorder.”  Services include a day program, tutoring, IEP consultation, Functional Behavior Assessment, school observation, ABLLS Assessment (Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills), supported inclusion, short-term specific issue intervention, and training for parents and professionals.  These programs focus on the following areas:  learning readiness, building and strengthening academic skills, imitation (echoics), building language and speech skills, encouraging emotional and social development, and addressing age-appropriate daily living skills.
